5 Basic fact for backpacker in South Korea

South Korea

1. 영어Koreans don't like to speak English, you must be lucky if you travel around and ask about something, then they answer your question in English. Better to ask for university student if you have any problems.

2.  한글If you truly want to discover deeply about Korea, you need to learn 한글 (hangeul) Korean character, because 98% of the banner is written in hangeul. And even if you want to order food you need to struggle around to read the hangeul. and after you could read it then what? you need to know the meaning, don't you? that's why we need number 3!

3.  사전과 지도Download application NAVER Dictionary to help you survive for number 2 problem and to do some basic survival Korean, like 'how much is it' 'can i have some water' 'i want to pay' and so on. another application that i strongly recommend to you is NAVER map. In my backpacking experience, this is my savior. unfortunately, the language is Korean so go back to number 2.

4.  반찬Side dish! when you go to Korean Restaurant you will get huge amounts variety of food that you didn't order. Yes, don't be confused, it's your side dish, they always provide the side dish with your main course. it's the way to get full of your tummy before you take your adventure.

5.  술Strong drink culture. Here there are some different kinds of alcohol drinks, ranging from the popular soju, makgoli, to beer. The price of soju is cheaper than the mineral water here. So, it's heaven for heavy drinker.
This is my personal 5 basic rules to backpack in Korea. i will post about the detail one later, and my personal route to enjoy Korea. Stay tuned.

Jinju Lantern Festival | 진주 남강 유등 축제

In October 2014, i conducted my first free trip in Korea from Korea Tourism Organization ore usually we called KTO as a global supporter. A little bit about the background of the application, i arrived in Korea at late August, saw the announcement in September directly applied to it without any hesitation without knowing 'what's the job description do i have to do?' "i can't speak any korean, am i eligible? will i survive?' But randomly choosing this festival all out of 10 festivals. And i am accepted as the supporter, and the story goes.

Let's learn Korean language, just a little bit

진주 Jinju, small beautiful city in southern part of Korea
남강 Namgang, southern river in Korea
유등 Yudeng, Lantern
축제 Chukje, Festival

With this 4 vocabularies, what could you imagine? the festival took place in Jinju, at a river, it must has a lantern, not only a lantern but huge and numerous lanterns.
