Hongkong: Food review

One of the reason why i came to Hongkong again is the delicious food that i missed. Chinese born Indonesian like me is a blessing, my tongue is so well attached both for either Chinese or Indonesian food. in this post, i will do the review for the place that i find in Hongkong. These places are the ones that i've arleady gone to. Maybe not as comprehensively with the food blogger, but i try to give you some information if you accidentally hit Hongkong and you want to find something to eat. Enjoy!

1.  Tim Ho Wan Dimsum

This is my 1st bucket list when i plan my trip to HK. This restaurant got its recognition for Michelin Stars for HK regions. when i heard about the reputation i found it, wow! i would be broke after having dimsum from Tim Ho Wan, but guess what? it's not that expensive and i so love it. I went to the North Point outlet, it's near the Fortress Hill MTR station. this left picture is the brand of this restaurant in Cantonese, i barely even know how to said it. this restaurant is famous with its pork bun. it's like 'Bakpao' but aboslutely morce delicious. the good thing is this restaurant also provide English menu for people when ordering. But, do you even know that green chinese character means Tim Ho Wan, as far as i remember they don't provide the Latin Character. so if you really want to try this one you need to extra prepare to search for this place beforehand. the picture below (courtesy to: tim ho wan) is the big 4 heavenly king dimsum from their restaurant. i tried 3 out of 4 because i don't eat the pig lever. (not important info). Find the location in www.timhowan.com/locate-us/. i heard from my friends in Indonesia and Singapore that they opened it also, gotta try it next time!

Baked bun with bbq pork, my favorite
2.  Noodle

Max's Noodle

This one also get Michelin Star recognition, serving the famous all around the world the Canton Noodle. So, what's the different with the Canton noodle with the others?
 Shrimp Wonton Noodle
  • this noodle size is really soft yet so chewy. it's so tiny but it's so hard to be cut off with your teeth.
  • the broth of the soup is contained of some Chinese herbs (i guess) because at the end of the taste, i found bitter taste that might be represent by the Chinese herbs
  • it served with either shrimp wonton, beef brisket or fish ball that make the taste so rich.
Those 3 are the reasons why i'd love so much with this kind of noodle. I visit this palace in The Peak Galeria outlet at Ground floor.

Tsim Chai Kee Noodle

There is another delicious noodle shop also in HK, named Tsim Chai Kee Noodle located near central, which actually is located in every corner at the city. I am so loved with this noodle, the taste is so good! and the price is really cheap if you compare to Max's Noodle. I tried the 3 combination of wonton, beef and fish ball. and cost me no more than 40HKD. Oh my God! I hope delicious and worthy of money food would come to Korea!

I did some review after my visit to HK, and there is a blog which give us the deeper review for this 2 king of noodle, (norecipes.com/dueling-wontons). But if i have to choose, regarding the taste and the value of money i would choose Tsim Chai Kee noodle! the richness of the soup, the soft fishball, tenderness of the beef, without hesitation the perfectness of the shrimp noodle.

3.  Egg tart

Actually this egg tart is so famous is Macau, but in HK they made it a little bit different at its puff. the type of the puff which serves in Macau is literally so puffy, like a croissant. when you bite it, it crash, a lot of air inside. But in HK, it is so bulky, when you bite it, it's not that crashed as the Macau egg tart. the HK egg tart is a little bit similar with Indonesian fruit tart in my opinion. And its egg above the puff is also differet, Macau egg tart is a little burnt, so blackish but in HK is so plan highlithed yellow. Which one is my favorite? i prefer the HK egg tart. I will give 1 place each for egg tart in HK and Macau for reference.

Pastelaria Koi Kei. Based on Macau, you could find few shops in HK though. If you go to Senado square you could fine 4-5 shops in that places on your way to St. Paul Ruins.
Tai Cheong Bakery - it think this brand is the greatest and widest bakery in town. at the first i don't know that this bakery is famous. i pass by few shops in Central and the Peak Galleria. You could visit this link to know the exact location

4.  Teakha

My friends who live in HK, drag me to this place. they said that this place is so happening right now even for the native. They have a concept of simple, sustainable and happy lifestyle. They offer the tea and cakes usually, i tried their Thai iced tea and want to try the green tea cake but unfortunately is ran out. The thing is, they have the style of cooking their tea beforehand which i found it new. when you drink it, it feels like the taste is so strong and i liked it. You could see from below picture that this place is so small.

Moreover, the concept and the architecture of their tea shop just lovely. it reminds me with the Cafe in Bandung, cozy and you could spend laughter and chit chat there. we're like twins, we order the same thai iced tea, and it is a good choice. Here is the exact location and contact if you are interested and i bet you are!
